In order for Hong Kong professionals to offer services and assistance in the best competent manner, understanding the motives, concerns, development and investment requirements of both the Mainland and the foreign counterparts is crucial. The proposed conference will offer a platform for exchanging such ideas between all parties concerned. This will also be one of the best avenues to promote the service of FM professionals in serving developers and investors in real estate.
Moreover, being an emerging economy, China is practically on a building (construction) spree and invariably, (foreign) investment in China real estate is very likely to include new development projects and ventures, especially when investment-grade real estate may not be in existence (or for sale). As such, project planning, construction management, and the subsequent facility-asset management are important processes which affect the eventual return (and risk) outcomes, and thus overall investment performances, tremendously. Here FM practitioners could offer immense insight and experience which could assist both Mainland developers and foreign investors in having fruitful ventures.

The HKIFM has successfully obtained approval of four PSDAS projects, namely ‘Quality FM Services for Modern Corporations’ , ‘Strategic FM Services in China’, ‘Total FM Solutions: Mapping Customer's Aspirations in a Changing World’ and ‘International Conference on Sustainable Integrated Design Process for Buildings and Construction (SIDP) Hong Kong 2008’. Our established connection and ‘brand name’ on FM could be used to enhance the effectiveness of events held for enriching the knowledge and developing opportunities for the profession. The first few PSDAS projects concentrated more on FM as a tool, customer focus and global issue of sustainability. This PSDAS application has been planned to extend the solid ground work laid by the previous PSDAS projects. This application focus more on the value of FM to other fields, namely the ever-expanding real estate development and investment field.

The objective is to explain the importance of FM to real estate property developers and investors and how FM knowledge, skills, techniques, and practices can help enhance real estate returns, lower risks, and improve overall asset performances thus,
- exploring and opening up new market opportunities for Hong Kong FM professionals and practitioners;
- increasing the understanding of FM professionals and practitioners with regards to the needs and aspirations of developers and investors operating in China;
- creating a platform for mutually beneficial exchanges and professional networks; and
- offering an opportunity for FM professionals in China, developers and investors to learn about the best practices and latest techniques.
