Professor Hon. Patrick Lau Sau-shing, SBS, JP

Professor Patrick LAU Sau-shing is a Legislative Councillor (2004-08), and Fellow Member and Past President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects (“HKIA”) (2001-02). He is an Honorary University Fellow, Honorary Professor, and former Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong (“HKU”), and Honorary Professor in the College of Humanities and Law of the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education. He received the HKIA Annual Award Certificate of Merit (1984, 1991, and 1996), the HKIA Medal of the Year for his design of the Australian International School (2001), and the Hong Kong Institute of Education Jockey Club Primary School (2002). He also received the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (1984), the HKIA Outstanding Architect Award (1991), and the Artist of the Year Award (1999). He was honoured with the Silver Bauhinia Star (2000), and appointed a Justice of the Peace (2004).

He serves as a Member of the Antiquities Advisory Board, the Housing Authority, Chairman of the Tender Committee and Member of the Building Committee of the Housing Authority; a Founding Director of the Hong Kong Architecture Centre and Board Member of the Ocean Park Corporation; Council Member of the Open University of Hong Kong and St. Paul’s College; Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Infrastructure Development Advisory Committee; and honorary advisor for various professional institutions. He is also Past Chairman of the Professional Green Building Council (2000-04) and the Outstanding Young Persons’ Association (1996-97); Past Vice Chairman of the Town Planning Board (1998-2006); former Member of the Economic Summit on “China’s 11th Five-Year Plan and the Development of Hong Kong” (2006-07), and the Commission on Strategic Development (2005-07); and former Part-time Member of the Central Policy Unit (2002-04).
