Report of HK Infrastructure & Real Estate Services Expo

in Shanghai, 2004

Date:    13 - 15 January 2004

Venue: Shanghai Mart, 1/F Exhibition Hall, Shanghai

Following the success of the Guangdong Expo last year, a team of delegates comprising Mr. P.C. Lau, Dr. Kelvin Wong, Ms. Annie Luk, and Ms. Nadasa Chan took part in the Hong Kong Infrastructure and Real Estate Services Expo 2004 held in Shanghai between 13th and 15th January 2004.  There were 48 exhibitors, which nearly doubled the number last year.  However, in terms of number of Expo visitors, this year was not as encouraging as last year because the Expo was held close to the Chinese New Year.  Nevertheless, given our enthusiastic endeavors and eye-catching posters, we were able to attract a reasonable number of visitors to our booth.  We also proactively introduced our Institute to other exhibitors. During the 3-day Expo, we distributed around 600 pieces of HKIFM pamphlets to visitors and received more than 140 name cards and 160 evaluation forms.  Sponsored small gifts (laser pointers) were given to those who completed the evaluation forms.

Our visitors came from a wide variety of disciplines, which included developers, property management companies, design companies, property consultants, environmental consultants, professional associations, government officials, and the media.  Their establishments were mainly based in Shanghai, but some were from other provinces or cities such as Guangzhou, Ningbo, Changzhou, Beijing, Shandong, Nanjing, Wuhan, and HKSAR.  Most of our visitors were interested in the novel concept of FM and would like to become members of our Institute.  They also asked if our Institute could organize FM seminars or courses in mainland China.  This gave us a very good chance to promote our coming Beijing conference in April.

The overall results of the event have been satisfactory.  The experience gained in the Guangzhou Expo last year was proved to be very useful in this event, especially in designing our new posters and leaflets.  Many visitors requested us to publish the poster contents in our websites.  One visitor even took photos of our posters for record.  This shows optimistically that there is a potential market for FM in mainland China.
