Interested applicants should complete the application form and attach relevant supporting documents (e.g. certificates of academic and professional qualifications), with a cheque in the amount of $500 for the Application Fee (non-refundable).

For application of Corporate Member, the form should be signed by 3 proposers. In addition, a written account on experience with relevance on FM has to be submitted together with the application form.

Applications will be considered by the Membership Committee. The assessment results will be endorsed at the Council Meeting. Applicants will be notified of the results by email. A certificate will be issued to Corporate Members by the Institute upon admission to signify the status and their commitments. A unique membership number will also be assigned to each Member for identification purpose.

In order to satisfy the recognised FM-related experience for the purpose of application for membership, the applicant is expected to have years of exposure in at least four out of the following eleven areas of Core Competency:

Section A
  • Real estate portfolio management
  • Maintenance and operations management
  • Space planning and design management
  • Project and contract management
  • Environmental management
  • Health, safety and physical security management
Section B
  • Human resources management
  • Information technology management
  • Law on local real estate
  • Financial management
  • Logistics management

The submission should be not more than 1,000 words on the reasons for joining, understanding of FM and commitment in the field.

In general, the submission should highlight the work experience and scope of work of the applicant. In particular, the written submission should elaborate the applicant's personal experience on the Core Competency as stipulated in the Application Form. There should also be an account of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) functions or programs undertaken by the applicant in past three years.
